Akvo Caddisfly is a simple, low cost, open source, smartphone-based drinking water testing system connected to an online data platform. It is designed for use by teams working to improve access to clean drinking water across often large or remote areas.

Water quality testing systems can be hard to use in the field, and lab-based tests are expensive and cause delays. Resulting data can be difficult to share. Using smartphones transforms water quality measurement. Testing can scale up very affordably, with data immediately accessible and shareable online.

Akvo Caddisfly (http://akvo.org/akvo-caddisfly) lets you test water for:

• Various parameters for which a strip test exists (e.g. pH, nitrate, nitrite, phosphates, iron, ammonium etc.). New strip tests can be added on request.

Additional test parameters are under development (e.g. arsenic and coliform bacteria).

Caddisfly is integrated with Akvo Flow (http://akvo.org/products/akvoflow/), Akvo’s online and mobile data collection platform. This lets you easily combine water quality testing with other base-line mapping and monitoring activities and view and share resulting data online in maps, thanks to the smartphone’s GPS.
